Christina or Christianna was born about 1805 in South Carolina.
She presumably married David Spearman, as suggested by the 1850 census.[1]
She almost certainly predeceased him, as she is not in the 1860 household and David Speaman's will, written 1877 and proved 1878, names a spouse as Nancy who is reportedly too young to be the same woman.
Because the number of David Spearman's marriages is not clear, the list of issue below might include his issue by a previous spouse, but it implies that he married someone before 1825.
Christianna presumably passed away before the 1860 Census.
Her parent's lineage is unknown.
A secondary source shows "Davis Spearman" and "Teena Spearman" as parents of a "Franklin W. Spearman," thought to be a garbled version of Francis A. Spearman, son of David and Christina Spearman. [2]
The purpose of this profile is to promote research, as placing her on the family tree of any parent is not yet a clearly proven connection.
See Research Notes here and at David Spearman, suggesting the possibility that she was born into the York family.
There is no doubt of the existence of David Spearman and a spouse with such a given name, [1] [3] but there is no basis for conflating the names Elizabeth and Christina as a Slatton or Slaton, as seen on a Find A Grave Memorial and numerous trees. There is no evidence of the existence of a daughter of William Slatton /Slaton named Christina or variant who married a Spearman. Conjecturing a daughter of William Slatton named Elizabeth Christina (or reversed) marrying a Spearman makes little sense, as there is certainly evidence of a daughter Elizabeth who married Cartee, Elizabeth Cartee, named in her father William Slatton 's 1838 estate distribution, and she lived and died using that marital name, strongly arguing against an identification of Elizabeth Slatton Cartee as a Christina Spearman.
There was a daughter of William Slatton named Frances who married Francis A. Spearman, thought to be the brother of David Spearman. Note that the father of William, George Slatton, apparently died only months prior to the death of son William, and George's estate settlement contains no distribution to any Spearman other than the aforementioned Francis A. Spearman, husband of George's granddaughter Frances Slatton Spearman.
The only evidence of Christina as a Slaton, is the claim that an informant for the death of a Sarah Spearman Adcock named that Sarah's mother as a Christina Slaton or Slator. [citation needed] with an incomplete "citation" at Sarah Adcock's memorial. [4] This claim needs a citation to a primary documentary basis, not an informant's claim.
A Find A Grave memorial [5] does not verify a visible marker bearing the names shown at the memorial, and thus is not a true source.
This falls into the category of a claim that is neither proved nor disproved as of this writing, unless a reader of this profile can supply better evidence than a repetition from uncited sources, and this alleged Slatton/Slaton connection is an example of a repeated claim that has no basis in records. Family stories should not be ignored, but such claims should prompt further research to determine if they are passed down or simply conjectured. See Research Notes at David Spearman.
An early conjecture of Christina's parentage was published by the late Frank Spearman in his Spearman Newsletter, where he wrote that David Desmond Spearman was married to Christina Slaton, daughter of William Slaton and Sarah Honey. This parentage for her has since appeared in numerous family trees and a memorial website with no evidence presented. Frank was interviewed by Clinton Slayton over the telephone from the home of Hiram Honea in Vestavia Alabama in the 1990s, and Frank stated that he had no proof or evidence of the surname Slaton. This conjecture of her birthname has been repeated in various publications, such as by Clarence Crocker [6] and a website by Rob Salzman, all uncited. William Slaton had no daughter of such a name, and his daughter Elizabeth married Caleb Cartee, not a Spearman.
Some of her issue might have been:

The large number of trees and memorials that "support" the Slaton contention show no citations, but the defense given by the manager of the FAG mem at the time of this writing for the name "Elizabeth Christina Slatton-Spearman" is based on the number of public trees showing this, without the least hint of actual genealogical research; it is hoped that this uncritical acceptance of "junk genealogy" does not invade WikiTree. By "junk genealogy," I mean the repetition of a guess until it appears to have the force of a proven fact; I am not questioning the late Mr Spearman's integrity. I am suggesting that he would prefer that research continue to either proof or disprove his contention, not an uncritical acceptance. The Slaton/Slattons, Spearmans, Sparkmans, and Clardys almost certainly intermarried, as records in the regions of (Old) Pendleton District and (Old) Greenville and 96 District in South Carolina seem to attest, but there is no proof that Christina was a Slaton/Slatton (or named Elizabeth) before marriage to a Spearman, and the possibility that she was born or previously married a man surnamed York is suggested. If such contentions of her parentage can be proved or better conjectured with actual evidence, that would be a different story.

Research Notes Note about possible father Her name is sometimes seen as Christiann, Christine, or Tena. Speculations that this woman is the daughter of Richard York Jr (1786 - 1860) or of a John WIlliam York are still being researched. She is not the daughter of William Slaton/Slatton and Sarah Honey, as appears in many unresearched trees. Biography and information has been changed by (Donnie Blackstone)
</ref> and she is not suspected to be this Christine.
David named his children after older family members. And family trees all give Elizabeth Slaton a name York. I think they are mixing together the women. David named 2 sons John and Calvin. There are land and military records for Calvin and John York, South Carolina who were born about the same time plus or minus as Christiann on David's census in 1850. These were apparently sons of JOHN WILLIAM YORK who maybe died about 1840. I think instead of WILLIAM SLATON, David's wife was a daughter of (John) WILLIAM YORK and named 2 of her sons after her brothers Calvin and John York DAVID DESMOND SPEARMAN had 3 wives Christiann/Christine/Tena , Mary Smith, and the Nancy named in his will. You might think about looking into the South Carolina YORK family
I believe this is Christiann's father The DNA Match refers to several lines of Yorks in North and South Carolina several "trees" list various children - none proven as he left no will and not all "trees" agree on names and fates of children BUT he is the only YORK in Anderson County when Christiann was born

Massive Conflict! The claim that Elizabeth Christine Slatton mar a Spearman is not bolstered by this record of sale; no Spearmans in this record from estate of father WIlliam Slatton:

The names Christina and York applied to her are not so far found bolstered by records, but the uncited phrase below quoted by Donnie Blackstone suggests an obituary or memorial card: "Elizabeth Christina York Slatton-Spearman is loved and missed by her family and friends."
This conflict is inexplicable as forenames attributed to William and Sarah (Honey) Slatton/Slaton below match all documented children, except Elizabeth Christina as married to a David Spearmen. Hence the listing of both sets of children is inaccurate, but is a compromise until a solution is found. This does not appear to be a serial marriage for one Elizabeth, as the Cartee and Spearman issue are contemporaries. On the other hand, the list of Cartee issue by Frank Cartee is not documented with citations, but five of six children are in the 1850 census, an alleged son John Wilson Cartee is unaccounted for in documents.
