Encyclopedia of VA Biography, Vol IV. Reuben Salughter was son of Col. Francis and Ann (Lightfoot) Slaughter who married 3 Jun 1729. Francis Slaughter was a large landholder in Culpeper & Orange Co VA; colonel of milita; justice; church-warden. He was a son of Robert and Frances Anne (Jones) Slaughter who married circa 1700. Robert, born circa 1680 held extensive land grants in Spotsylvania and Essex Counties. He was prob a son of Francis & Margaret (Hudson) Slaughter, planter of Richmond County VA born about 1653. Francis was a son of Capt Francis who married in 1652, Elizabeth Underwood, and a grandson of John Slaughter, the emigrant, who settle in VA prior to 1620.
