Research Notes

Birth - Profile Slecht-111 had birth on 25 Jul 1642 in South Holland

False Marriage

Husband: Gerrit Cornelissen Van Nieuwkirk
Note that Trintje listed above was previously detached from this mother, and then attached instead as Daughter of Gerrit Focken and Jacomyntje C. (Slecht) Elting, who are her correct parents, and Jacomyntje is the same woman as that match. So Trintje's van Nieuwkirk father named above in error. He is not the husband of Jacomyntje, nor Trintje's father. Instead, he is the husband of Jacomyntje's sister, Chieltie. Mix-216 00:06, 7 October 2014 (EDT)

This Jacomyntje Cornelise Sleght-31, as Daughter of Cornelis Sleght and Chieltie Gerrits and Wife of Gerrit Cornelissen Van Nieuwkirk is attahced to the wrong husband, and the wrong mother. Her father seems okay.

As the older generations get merged down, I think this will become more clear.

She is in reality Chieltie's sister, not her daughter, and she is a match for her rejected match, Jacomyntje Cornelisdr (Slecht) Elting Slecht-23, after her wrong husband van Nieuwkirk gets removed.

That last part should not be a problem, since she has no children here. Gerret Cornelissen Van Nieuwkirk was instead married to Jacomyntje's sister, Chieltie.

I am going to go ahead and make these changes so that the tree matches will make sense.

I don't believe it's feasible that Jacomyntje Cornelisdr Slecht married Gerrit Cornelissen Van Nieuwkirk. I added a lead to his profile that shows death in 1695, so he would have to have been her 4th husband (not feasible since her third husband outlived her).

In Esopus, Jan Roelofsz Eltinge became a prominent citizen. If he had married earlier, that wife had died, for in 1677 he married the widow Jacomijntje Focken, daughter of Cornelis Barentsz Slecht and Trijntje Mathijsdr Bosch, who had five children from her two previous marriages. First she was married to Jan Kunst and their daughter, Heijltje married Nicolaas Roosevelt (ancestor of both U.S. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt).

Ancestry.com shows records of her father, Cornelius arriving in NY in 1655 and also in 1656, so she would have been 13/14 if they came as a family.

fyi, I've posted a question about the spelling of husband Gerrit's name (Foecken or Focken). See the G2G post.
