Biography

Emma was born in 1879. She was the daughter of Jesse Slingo and Emma Gunner. It would appear that Emma never married. Once we got past the birth and christening records, this file has lots of info, much of it uncertain. Emma appears to be a life long domestic servant, living independently in the 1911 Census, and then traversing to Canada and the U.S. But even here, we have multiple boat passages and border crossings between St. Catharines, Ont and a place in Massachusetts, which we had difficulty putting into any sort of order. Then, Emma Slingo shows up in Toledo, Ohio for the US Census of 1920 and 1930, but once again we can't tie her to anything – this part is interesting – but not definitive - because her brother Herbert also spent time in Toledo. At some point, she returned to Hampshire, where she died in December 1946 (refer to image section of this profile for source info).
