On 18 Jul 1870 at the time of the 1870 US Census, head of household James Sloan (age 46, born in NY) was employed as a Mason and living in a home valued at $1,000 in New York with his wife Mary Sloan (age 29, born in Ireland) with his son Philip Sloan (age 11, born in NY), daughter Maggie Sloan (age 9, born in NY), daughter Katie Sloan (age 7, born in NY), daughter Mary Sloan (age 6, born in NY), son John Sloan (age 5, born in NY), son Willie Sloan (age 3, born in NY), son Frank Sloan (age 1, born in NY), mother-in-law Catherine Nash (age 60, born in Ireland), and brother-in-law Tobias Purcell (age 24, born in Ireland), employed as a Fireman. ^[1]
