William was born in Exeter, Washington, Rhode Island, United States, on August 10, 1811, son of Eleazar Slocum and Sarah Crandall.
He married Harriet Knight Capron in North Kingston, Rhode Island on August 8, 1831. They were joined in marriage by Elder John Gardner of the Baptist faith. [1]
