Biography
Birth
All the censuses compute her birth date as 1848.
Name
The 1898 census gives her Hocąk name as Ah-hoo-kho-ru-ra-win-kaw, which is for Ahuxururewįga, from ahu, wing; xurure, surure, "slow, the slow ones"; -wį, a feminine gender infix; and -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. "Slow Wing" is an Upper Moiety name.
Marriage
Slow Wing said that she had been married twice when George was still alive in 1910. George, on the other hand, said he had never been engaged in a marriage. (1910 census)
Children
George and Slow Wing, probably both in their second marriage, had two children rather late in life:
- Joseph, birth order name: Hagaga, "Third Son"; clan name: Sakewaručka, "He who Eats Raw Flesh," b. 1887;
- Ellen, birth order name: Wihąga, "First Daughter"; clan name: Hąhemąnįwįga, "Night Walker Woman," b. 1879. (1910 census)
