Text - "... I will first place on record my sense of the loss that we have sustained, synce the last session of the Synod, by death of two of its members, and of two others who held office in the Church. The Rev. George Cockayne Small died on 15 February after an illness of some months. He was the junior Deacon of the Diocesce, having been admitted by me to Holy Orders on Trinity Sunday 1889. He was a young man specially fitted for our work, and had already proved his efficiency, first in Albert land, as a lay preached, and subsequently in the Helensville District. Mr Small made good use of his opportunities at St. John's College, where he held a Maria Blackett Scholarship for two years.; and not withstanding his limited leisure for study during his years previous to entering the college, he had passed three grades of our theological examination with distinction; being awarded in 1888 the exhibition given by the General Synod in connection with grade II. Mr Small will be remembered with affection and respect by many people to whom it was his privilege and his happiness to minister; and I shall always think of him as one of the most promising of the young clergy who were prepared for their ministerial duties at our Provincial College of St. John.
