Guy Pope Small is born April 3, 1864 in West Windsor, Windsor, Vermont, USA. His supposed father was John P Small and his mother was Sara Lovina Hammond. His mother dies not long after his birth (May 28, 1864). ^[1][2][3]

At a later date, Guy takes his mother's surname as his own, becoming Guy Pope Hammond. ^[1]

In the 1870 Census, Guy is living with his grandparents family-including his uncles, Earnest and Elwin, in West Windsor, Windsor, Vermont, USA. ^[4]
