Estella "Stella" Abby Small was born in 1850 in Yarmouth, Maine, the daughter of Isaac Jones Small (1800-1875) and Nancy Morse Dunbar (1804-1866). She married Kimball Verrill Saunders in 1871; they had a son Fred and a daughter Frances "Fannie".
At the end of their lives, she and Kimball lived in Auburn, Maine with their daughter Fannie and son-in-law Col. George Curtis Webber. She died in 1931 and is buried at the Riverside Cemetery, Lewiston, Maine.
