Mary Small was born to Francis and Elizabeth (Leighton) Small about 1656, according to a deposition she gave in 1677. She was most likely born in Falmouth Maine, as were her older siblings, but records have not yet been found.
Mary married Nicholas Frost about 1673, before she was 18, in Maine. Mary and Nicholas had seven children:
In June, 1693, Mary and two children were captured by Indians. Her husband, Nicholas, was also captured about the same time. It appears that they all escaped.
In the year 1698, her husband was reported "drowned", and in the same year, she was licensed to keep a public house of entertainment.. She was made the administratrix of her husband's estate in 1707.
Mary passed away in about 1714, after a long illness during which she was cared for by her son, Bartholomew. (In some documents her death is reported as being in 1712, but no death records have been found to verify the date precisely.) During her final days, she was being cared for in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which is her presumed death location. Unreferenced sources suggest she may have died in Kittery, Maine.
