Biography

Elizabeth was born before 5 January 1817 in Margate, Kent, England.^[1]

Elizabeth was baptised on 5 January 1817 in St John Thanet, Margate, Kent, England. Elizabeth was baptized with mother's name only. A few months later her mother married William Buzar.^[2][3]

When Elizabeth was 21 she married John Andrew Black on 24 July 1838 in St Giles in the Fields, Holborn, Camden. The couple had 8 children: Elizabeth Ann Black, John Henry William Black, William Charles Black, John Andrew Black, Mary Black, Robert Black, Henry John Black and Andrew John Black. William Buzar was a witness (Elizabeth Ann's step-father or step-brother).^[4][5]

In the 1841 census Elizabeth (age 24) was living in St Marylebone, Middlesex, England. When married husband was at George St which is a few blocks from Gloucester Place. But I think this 1841 census entry is probably not the right person. The 1841 baptism of their 1st 2 children said their address was Montague Place - Missing from Census.^[6]

In the 1851 census Elizabeth (age 34) was living in Southwark St George, Surrey, England. Relation to Head of House: Wife.^[7]

In the 1861 census Elizabeth (age 44) was living in Deptford St Nicholas, Kent, England. Relation to Head of House: Wife.^[8]

In the 1871 census Elizabeth (age 54) was living in Erith, Kent, England. Relation to Head of House: Wife.^[9]

In the 1881 census Elizabeth (age 64) was living in Newington, London, England. Marital Status: Widow. Relationship to Head: Visitor Address: 56 Doddington Grove Her son Robert was discharged to here in 1852.^[1]

In the 1891 census Elizabeth (age 74) was living in Preston, Lancashire, England with her younger son Andrew and his family. Relation to Head of House: Mother.^[10]

In the 1901 census Elizabeth (age 84) was living in Preston, Lancashire, England. Relation to Head: Mother.^[11]
