Death certificate of Willem Johannes Jacobus Smit Concentration camp records mafeking Family member recollections. He was a farmer in the Mafeking area, Makwassie, and had two farms there, one was named Welgemoet. He had a prospector's license (naairs) for diamonds. His whole family had moved to German West Africa(SWA) to prospect for diamonds, they returned trekking over the Kalahari dessert with a donkey cart containing a little galvanized shack which they erected when they camped out for longer periods, this journey ended in the western Transvaal where he farmed and prospected diamonds.
