Margaretha was de dochter van Cornelis Smit en Maria Jans Opbroek. Ze werd gedoopt op 18 oktober 1733 in de Nederduitsch gereformeerde kerk in Gouda[1]. Getuige was Catharina Opbroek.
Ze woonde met haar ouders op de Turfmarkt[1][2].
Op 3 april 1763 trouwde ze in Gouda met Cornelis van Maaren[2]. Ze kregen zeker 1 kind:
