Biography
She was the daughter of Joseph Smith and Mary Lobden.
She married John Haskell at Bristol in 1732.[1] Children:
- Mary bap. 18 December 1733
- John bap. 13 October 1734; d. 4 July 1736
- Joseph bap. 28 November 1736
- Sarah bap. 4 June 1738
John died in November 1737 (so Sarah was born after his death). Either Mary or Joseph died 24 July 1737.
She died at Bristol in 1775.[2]
Research Notes
Mary appears as widowed head of household in Bristol in the 1774 Census of Rhode Island[3]. Her household distribution and inferred attributions are
- two white females over 16: Mary and daughter Sarah
- two black males under 16: perhaps one was Song, who was born around 1771
- one black female over 16: perhaps enslaved woman Lucy, who died in 1789 aged 54
