Biography

Richard was born in 1767 in North Carolina.

He married Patience Atkinson in 1790 in Wilkes County, North Carolina (?, possibly Georgia?), then moved to Greene County, Georgia, by 1796. They had at least five children: Nathan born 1793, Nancy born 1795, James (ancestor) born 1798, Martha born 1799, and Alexander born 1811. There may have been a sixth child named Thomas Richard Smith born in 1814. [1]

Richard passed away after 1842 in Greene County, Georgia. Burial was in the Leslie-Winfield Family Cemetery, Liberty, Greene County, Georgia.[2]
