Mathilde Oxley Smith was born on November 9^th 1905 in Parrsboro, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. She is the daughter of Harley Thompson Smith and Ethel Marie Oxley. ^[1]

Mathilde Oxley Smith married Joseph Arthur Hugh Whitford on June 15^th 1942 in Parrsboro, Cumberland, Nova Scotia by Licence No 61456. Mathilde (bp Parrsboro, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, age 36) was a Dietician residing in Parraboro at the time of marriage. Hugh (bp Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, age 42) was an Architect residing at 47 Inglish Street, Halifax at the time of marriage. The parents of the bride are Harley Thomas Smith (bp Parrsboro) and Ethel Marie Oxley; the parents of the groom are Joseph Arthur Whitford (bp Chester, Lunenburg County) and Abigail Isabel Kemp. The witnesses were E. B.Truman and A. Smith; officiating clergyman was Charles R Harris, Church of England. ^[2]

Mathilde Oxley Whitford (nee Smith) died April 8^th 1996 at her home. She was 90 years of age. Born in Parrsboro, she was the daughter of the late Harley T. and Ethel Smith (nee Oxley). Rev John Scott was officiating the burial at Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. ^[3]
