Biography

Charity M. Smith was born 11 May 1877 in Wayne County, West Virginia the daughter of William H. Smith and Martha Elizabeth Daniels. [1] [2]

She was 2 years old in 1880 and resided with her parents William H. and Martha E. Smith at Ceredo in Wayne County, West Virginia. [3]

At age 17 she married Charles Grubbs (age 23) on 20 March 1896 at the home of Wm Smith on Buffalo Creek in Wayne County, West Virginia. The marriage ceremony was performed by J.B. Workman, Minister.[4]

They had a son Herbert Grubbs shown as 3 years old in the 1900 census and living with his uncle Luther Grubbs [5] and in the 1910 census Herbert was age 13, residing with his grandparents William and Martha Smith in Cabell County, West Virginia.[6]

It is possible his parents were dead by 1900 because they are not found in the 1900, 1910 or later census.
