West Virginia birth records show Carp Felix Smith was born 5 July 1879 in Wayne County to William Harrison Smith and Martha E. Daniels.
[1]
He was enumerated as "Cartmil F. Smith", 11 months old in the household of William H. and Martha E. Smith at Ceredo, Wayne County, West Virginia in 1880. The use of the name Cartmil shows his parents possibly intended to name him for his maternal uncle, Cartmill Daniels who had died about 1875. "Carp" may have been a nickname for Cartmill. [2]
Carp Smith (age 19) married Bertha Brumfield (age 15) in Wayne County, West Virginia on 5 October 1898 "at the residence of the brids (sic bride's) parents" by Bert A Hutcheson, Minister. [2]
The World War I Draft Registration for Carp Felix Smith shows he resided Huntington City no 2, West Virginia. His birth date was 5 Jul 1879. [3]
He resided in Cabell County, West Virginia in 1910 with his wife Bertha and three children.[4]
