Emigration (Refer also Nathan Overend entry for greater details)
Elizabeth & first husband Nathan, together with Nathans sister Fanny, traveled to Port Nicholson (Lyttelton) on the "Robert Small" for the cost of a 23 pound promissory note. They landed on 29/1/1860. Elizabeth was very pregnant and on arrival walked the bridle path from Lyttelton to Christchurch. They then lived in a house on the corner of River & Ferry Roads. It appears Elizabeth could not read or write, as she marked James birth Reg. with a cross and missed a misspelling of Overend as Overing. Gordon-7688
