Sophronia Auelda Smith was born on 27 February 1863 in Stanly, North Carolina, United States, daughter of Martin James Monroe Smith and Lucy UNKNOWN.[1]

Sophronia (15) and Joseph Ephraim Hartsell (36) were married on 8 August 1878 in Stanly.[2] Their known children were:

Sophronia died on 13 April 1884 in Chatham, North Carolina, aged 21. She was buried in Loves Chapel United Methodist Cemetery, Stanfield, Stanly County, North Carolina.[1]
