Biography

Merle started work at 14 cutting threads off shirts, and became a machinist. She met Maud Lovell at this time, and they remained lifelong friends.

Merle and Jack lived with her sister Maisie and husband Charlie at 22 Crescent, Ryde, after their marriage in 1938. Jack served overseas in WWII, and soon as their house at 26 Crescent Ave, was completed shortly after the end of WWII, they moved there to raise their family.
