John was born between 1796 and 1800 in South Carolina.[1] He was the son of David Smith and Sarah Lindley. [2]

He married about 1825, but the name of his wife is unknown.[3]

He was still living on 11 Jan 1857, when he received a distribution from his mother's estate.[4]
