George was born in 1894 in Edwardsville, Illinois and married Agda, his high school sweetheart, in a quiet surprise ceremony at the local manse late one Thursday night. He served in the military police in WWI; by his own account, he "arrested soldiers in bars in New York City." Trained as an electrical engineer, he worked at various power companies, most extensively for Arizona Public Service (27 years), eventually being in charge of the internal audit department. His hobbies included spending time in Oak Creek Canyon, fishing, and whittling. Family members have extensive collections of his carvings of Arizona birds. He passed away in 1969.
