Joseph was born in 1819, probably in Walton County, Georgia.[1] He was the son of Job Smith and Nancy Camp.[2]

On 15 Feb 1838, he married Charlotte Hill in Walton County, Georgia.[3]

He died between 1880 and 1900.[4]
