Biography

Irene Satterwhite, age 78, of Mesquite, Texas, was born April 28, 1939 in Cottonwood, Texas, to James "Pete" and Elna Crady Smith; and passed away February 5, 2018 in Richardson, Texas. Irene was an avid lover of the theater, she never missed one of her grandchildren's performances, and even continued to attend and assist with the Theater's shows once her grandchildren had graduated. She served on the board of the Garland Civic Theater for several years. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Satterwhite Valle and husband, Richard of Garland; grandchildren, Lacey, Jacob, James, and Adrianna of Garland; her extended grandchildren at the North Garland Raider Theater; brother, James T. Smith II of Mesquite; and her sisters, Doris Moffitt and family of Kaufman, and Mary Martin and family, of Fate. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Elna. Funeral services will be held in Irene's honor at 1:00PM Friday, February 9, 2018, with an interment to follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Scurry, Texas. The family will accept visitors from 6:00-9:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.myasthenia.org/howcanihelp/donations.aspx . Since Irene loved the color red, the family requests that guests wear Red, or their favorite bright colors to celebrate her life. The family also welcomes any stories to be shared during the service, as Irene was quite the story-teller.
