Hi Cathy,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

Hi Joan,

Thanks for checking in. I recently finished the Level 1 study group for accreditation with ICAPgen and still deciding if I will complete the level 1 project (source citations formatting being the bane of my existence). I am just beginning a volunteer project with the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Family History Society which I selfishly hope will advance my own research in Huntingdonshire. I'm fine with my current teams. although admittedly I haven't contributed much there!

I have used Discord during challenges and actually find it a bit annoying. I can't figure out how to stop notifications, so I generally uninstall it after the challenge because I don't like it constantly notifying me. The Google group is a lot less intrusive. I kind of go in streaks with Wikitree, working on it for awhile, then pausing to move to something else. I always intend to get back to it.....

Thank you for the feedback Cathy. I hope you volunteer project works well.

I am glad that you are happy with your teams. I know that Discord is not for everyone. I think people either love it or hate it. You do not have to use if if you do not want. Good luck with your research.

Regards Joan

Hi, Cathy!

Thank you for your participation in October 2020’s Source-a-thon. Your contributions helped us to clear over 57,000 profiles that needed sourcing. This makes our Shared Tree all that much better.

Keep up the great work!

Hi Cathy,

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. I wanted to thank you for your work on English Profiles. These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the project leaders for everything you do!

Kindest Regards, Amy Utting

Hi Cathy,

On behalf of the England Leaders, I wanted to say a huge thank you for all your contributions towards the project in the past six months as a Team Member for Huntingdonshire and Devon. We've achieved a great deal during this time and we couldn't have done it without you.

Are you happy to stay in your current teams and the project as a whole? Are there any other teams you'd like to join? What are we doing well, and what would you like to see us doing differently moving forwards?

Please respond to this message via e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks,

Susie, England Project Leader :-)

Hi Cathy

We sent you a message about a week ago about the England Project but have not yet heard back from you. If we don't hear from you by this time next week we'll assume you no longer wish to be in the project.

Many thanks,

Susie, Gillian, Wendy and Amy

Hi Cathy

On behalf of the England Project Leaders we're carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work over the past six months. We have been so impressed with the way everyone has rallied together and gone the extra mile to make this one of the most dedicated, productive and friendly communities on WikiTree. What are you enjoying most about being in the project? What would you like to see improved or changed? Would you like to continue in the project moving forwards?

We're looking forward to hearing back from you,

Susie, Gillian, Wendy and Amy

Hi there!

I'm a WikiTree mentor checking in to say hello.

Any issues or concerns regarding Wikitree? Confused about formatting or merges? Wondering how to do something?

If so, I can probably help. Please feel free to contact me anytime via my profile page.

Hi

You've been a member for about a week so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiTree Messenger

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.

Once you add profiles to WikiTree they become searchable and in my experience persons interested in these profiles will contact you and may provide further information to expand your family tree.

Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.

Hello Cathy,

To Volunteer just add any surnames of interest into Tags so that you have one tag for each surname and location. By doing that, when you are confirmed as a full member you can then click on those tags, and you'll be taken to a page where you'll see other genealogists who are also following those surnames and locations. I really encourage you to explore the connections it helps you make. :-) Don't forget to Check the Volunteer Box. The button to click is at the bottom of the page and says Add tags and Volunteer. It is rectangular.

When you have done that one of our Greeters will confirm you as a full member so that you can Edit your Profile and enter information into WikiTree.

Gilly,

PS If you encounter a problem let me know so that I can help.
