He married Agnes Smith in 1860. 
He passed away in 1917. 
Rockford Republic, Friday, February 2, 1917 FUNERAL OF DANIEL SMITH T0 BE SUNDAY Died at Age of 86 - For Many Years Farmer in Winnebago.
Funeral services for Daniel Smith, who died last evening at his home, 426 Hinckley Avenue, will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home, Rev. Wm. H. Fulton officiating and interment will be in the Winnebago cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born 86 years ago in Argyleshire, Scotland and for the past 37 years had made his home in this vicinity. He was engaged in farming in Winnebago, where he was a well-known personality, for a number of years, until last September when he removed to this city making his home at Hinckley avenue.
Surviving him are five children: James A. Smith, Robert Smith and Mrs. A. H. Coffin of the Cunningham road; Miss Mary Smith of this city and Mrs. James Corl of Minneapolis, Kans. His wife preceded him in death a number of years ago. Misses Mabel and Myrtle Hollenbeck, 944 North Church street are nieces.
