Elwood/Ellwood H Smith was born 9 Nov 1885 in Pennsylvania, USA. He was the son of Maggie E and William Smith.

In Aug 1937, Elwood Smith, his wife, son Elwood, son James, and daughter Mary lived in Village Green. They went on vacation to California to visit his father William who lived in Los Angeles but had recently been staying with Elwood. [11]

On 31 Dec 1938, his son Elwood W Smith married Isabelle B Fritz at Mt Hope Methodist Episcopal Church in Aston Township. The bridal party consisted of Miss Dorothy Turner, Samuel Tyrens, James Smith, and Isabelle's brother Walter Fritz. Isabelle lived in Village Green and was the daughter of Walter L and Alice Burns Fritz. [12]

About 1939, his son James W Smith married Kathryn.

1940s

In May 1940, Elwood H Smith (56) lived on Pennell Road in Aston Township with his wife Sarah W (57), daughter Mary (18), son James W (22), daughter-in-law Kathryn (20), and grandson James W (1m). The value of their home was $3200. Elwood's highest level of education completed was 8th grade; Sarah finished 6th grade; Mary finished 3 years of high school; James was a high school graduate, and Kathryn finished 8th grade. Ellwood worked as a contracting carpenter; James worked as a auto business stockman. They were neighbors with John Watterson (28), his wife Margaret (27), and family. [10]

1960s

In Dec 1960, Ellwood and Sarah celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The hosts were children Ellwood W, of Convent Road, James W, of Riddlewood, and Mrs Mary Chandler, of Concord. Ellwood and Sarah had six grandchildren. [13]

In 1965, his wife Sarah W Smith died. She was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Aston. [14]

1970s

In 1971, Ellwood H Smith died. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. [15]

Hope Methodist, Episcopal Church. The ceremony was performed at 1 o'clock by Rev. Leo P. Zook, of Ross Street Methodist Episcopal Church, of Lancaster, assisted by Rev. Harry H. Truax, pastor of Mt. Hope Methodist Episcopal Church. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Walter Fritz. She wore a gown of white lace made en train over satin with cowl neck, and long sleeves ending in points over her hands. She also wore a flowing veil of tulle and lace, and carried a bouquet of white rose. Miss Dorothy Turner, of Hall's Corner, was the maid of honor and only attendant. She wore a gown of sea blue taffeta made on crinoline lines with a full skirt and short puffed sleeves with matching accessories. Miss Turner carried a bouquet of pink roses. Samuel Tyrens, of Ridley Park, was best man, and the ushers were Walter Fritz, a brother of the bride, and James Smith, a brother of the bridegroom. Harry Kailer, of Chelsea, sang "I Love You Truly," and "Because." Norman Hall, who was the organist for the wedding march, was the accompanist. The bride's mother wore a dress of teal blue with matching accessories and a corsage of orchids. The bridegroom's mother wore a dress of teal blue with black accessories and a corsage of orchids. A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride. After a short wedding trip to New York, Mr. and Mrs. Smith will reside on Knowllton road. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fritz and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Smith.

Still actively self-employed in building, Mr. Smith attends Mt. Hope Church where he is a member of the board and a trustee.
