Biography

Thomas Smith was the first born son on April 5, 1831, in Patrick, Virginia, to his father, Bartlett Smith, who was 23 and his mother, Helen Scott, who was 19. in the 1950 US Census living in his fathers house he was listed as a Laberer on his fathers farm. He married Mary "Polly" Ann Barnard in the early 1850s and they Adopted a son William Henry Overby. Thomas served in the Civil war leaving with other volunteers from Patrick County July 1st 1861. He was listed as a Patrick County Virginia Farmer in the 1970 US Census. After the death of Mary Ann He married Virginia Bertha Rickman in 1902 and they had two children together. He died on June 9, 1907, in his hometown Pactrick, Virginia, having lived a long life of 76 years, and was buried there.
