Research Notes

Previously shown son Thomas

William and his wife Katherine have previously been shown as parents of Thomas Smith. According to Lincolnshire Pedigrees the William Smith who married Katherine was of Honington, Warwickshire[2] The relationship with son Thomas arose through a succession of merges, some of poorly-sourced profiles, for Thomas.

The 1623 Visitation of Gloucestershire shows Thomas as son of a different William Smith, of Humberston, Lincolnshire, and his wife Emmott, last name at birth unknown.[3]

Thomas has now been detached from Katherine and her husband.

William Smith married Katherine Porter 30 Jan 1541 Belton, Lincolnshire, England[4]In his will, written in September 1551, William Smyth refers to his children, Augustine, William, Edmond, Elizabeth and Elinor, father, Thomas Smyth, father-in-law, Augustine Porter, and siblings, Alban Smyth, Thomas Smyth, Robert Smyth, and Elizabeth Smyth.
