Joseph Smith, second son and third child of Asael and Mary Duty Smith, was born July 12, 1771, at Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts. He married Jan. 24, 1796 Lucy Mack, daughter of Solomon Mack.

Lucy Mack was born July 8, 1776, at Gilsum, Cheshire Co., N. H., and died May 5, 1855.[1]

Joseph died Sept. 14, 1840, at Nauvoo, Illinois and was buried at Smith Family Cemetery, Nauvoo. His memorial has photos, biography and links to many family members.

  8. William. Born March 13, 1811, at Royalton, Windsor Co., Vermont.[23] He died Nov. 13, 1893 in Osterdock, Iowa; married (1) Caroline A Grant (2) Roxie R Grant, (3)Eliza E. Sanborn, (4) Rosella Goyette[16]
  9. Catharine. Born July 8, 1812, at Lebanon, N. H. Married Wilkins Jenkins Salisbury.[24] Katherine died 1 Feb 1900 in Fountain Green, Illinois. She married (1) Wilkins J. Salisbury (2) Joseph Younger.[16]
  10. Don Carlos. Born March 25. 1816, at Palmyra, N. Y.[25] Born in Norwich, Vermont; died 7 Aug, 1841 in Nauvoo, Illinois; m. Agnes Moultin Coolbrith.[16]
