Louisa Smith (married name Southwell) was born in 1844 in Ramsay, Huntingdonshire, England, the daughter of Mary Kilby and Edward Smith.
She married John Southwell in 1867 at Parkwood, New South Wales, Australia. Their children were:

In 1906, Louisa was reading in the kitchen by candle light at her home, "Ottocliffe" in Hall, New South Wales, when a fire broke out at the house. Louise lost many of her belongings, including her watch and jewelry and all her clothes but those on her back.
Louisa died in 1926 at her home on Denison Street, Junee, New South Wales, aged 82 years.
