John was born about 1695, estimated from date of marriage and details on his marriage licence.
He was married to Lydia Emot or Amott by licence on 25 March 1717 at Caverswall, Staffordshire. "John Smith and Lidy Amat both of Leek parish".[1]
He died in 1766 and was buried at Leek on 15 December 1766 "John Smith of Wild Goose House was buried".[2] He left a will dated 23 March 1764: "I John Smith of Wild Goose House in the parish of Leek.... yeoman". He mentions the following family members: "my granddaughter Anne Turner the eldest daughter of my late daughter Hannah Turner, ... her brothers and sisters ... my daughter Kidd the wife of John Kidd (later referred to as Mary the wife of John Kidd) ... my daughter Lidia the wife of Thomas Hulme ... Sarah the wife of John Copland ... my younger son Robert Smith ... my daughter Elizabeth the wife of Joseph Wright ... my two daughters Anne the wife of William Stevenson and Jane the wife of William Blore ... my daughter Eleanor Smith ... John Smith the younger my son ... my grandson William Smith the only son of my eldest son John Smith ... my daughter Rebecca Wood the wife of Robert Wood ... my brother William Smith". Probate 6 March 1767.[3]
