" You will note that one of the Sources listed is the Find A Grave site. On the site is a message from Wilcox researcher Jane Trotman, who wrote: "Sgt. Blodgett Smith's parents were Thomas Smith b. 1708 probably Sudbury, and his mother was Abigail Adams, b. 1716 in Windham County CT. Blodgett Smith was the brother of Abigail Smith who married Elnathan Wilcox in Dutchess Co., (note: NY) Near Amenia, ca 1758." Jane Trotman has researched very thoroughly for the first wife of Elnathan Wilcox for over 30 years. She is the person who discovered the second wife's name, Hannah Parmalee Isbell on a quit claim deed. Her claim that Elnathan Wilcox's first wife was an Adams is based on her extensive research and this is most likely the connection. However, Elnathan's first wife's name in my opinion, was more likely to have been Thomas Smith and Abigail's daughter, Hannah Smith (b. 24 August 1737) instead of her sister, Abigail Smith. I think she was Hannah Smith because the LDS Church had "Hannah Adams" listed as Elnathan Wilcox's first wife on old archive records dating back to the 1890's. Jane Trotman also thoroughly researched the Adams family and did not find a Hannah Adams in the Adams family who could have been her, but she concluded that Elnathan's first wife's mother was an Adams, (Abigail), a sister to John Adams who married Mary Parke who also lived in Berkshire Co., Mass. When Elnathan's first wife's mother, Abigail Adams Smith Bennett died in 1757, her daughter Hannah who was single and age 20, was probably taken in by the John Adams family and became known as Hannah Adams. Elnathan's first child William was b. in 1759, so Elnathan married in 1758. This is a very likely explanation of why the name Hannah Adams was passed down through generations. She was Hannah Smith and adopted by her uncle John Adams. Elnathan Wilcox co-owned a mill with Blodgett Smith according to a deed in Berkshire Co., Mass. that was sold by both men on the same day. I'll add the date when I find it. "
