"George Smith came to America in 1760 and remained here against his father's wishes. Dr. Luther M. Smith had in his possession during his lifetime a letter from George Smith Sr., to George Smith Jr., telling him that if he remained in America and joined the forces against the king that he would be disinherited. He remained in America, settling in Virginia and was a Captain in the Colonial Army. d. 1790."
