John was born in 1827. He passed away in 1906. He was the second husband of Elizabeth "Betsy" Efird. She had been married to William R Curlee, who passed away in 1853.

J.T. Smith bought a churn for $25 from the Estate of his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Efird Curlee Smith's former father-in-law Marriner Curlee in 1879. Betsy's son, and Marriner Curlee's grandson by his son William R Curlee, John William Curlee was the Executor of his grandfather's Will.
