Biography

Selina Smith was born at Nairne, South Australia[1] on 2 January 1858. Her parents were Alfred Smith and Harriet Hutchings Langbridge, who had been married in Chelsea (London) on 9 March 1852 and had come to South Australia in the ship Ostrich on 21 July 1854.⁠[2][3]

Alfred and Harriet Smith had one child who was born and died in Chelsea, and nine children born in South Australia.

  • Harriet Mary Doe Smith was born on 29 December 1852 and baptized on 10 April 1853 at St Luke's Chelsea,[4] and buried there on 12 August 1853.[5]
  • John Allen Smith was born on 24 November 1854 and baptized on 11 May 1855[6] at Trinity Church Adelaide.[7] He was buried in the West Terrace Cemetery on 19 September 1918.⁠[8][9]
  • Alfred James Smith was born on 19 June 1856[10] at Nairne,[11] and died of heatstroke on 17 February 1875[12] at Laura.[13]
  • Selina Smith (1858–1920).
  • Mary Louisa Smith was born on 24 February 1860[10] at Nairne and died on 5 January 1930[14] at Rhodes, New South Wales.[15]
  • Frederick William Smith was born on 12 July 1862 at Nairne. He married Elizabeth Anderson on 14 April 1884[16] at Jamestown;[17] she was buried on 18 October 1900[18] at Johnburgh.[19] He married Isabella Phillis on 27 October 1903;[20] she died on 21 October 1949.[21] Frederick William Smith died on 27 March 1932 at Adelaide.[22]
  • Agnes Anne Smith was born on 4 January 1865 and died on 29 January 1865 at Bungaree, South Australia;
  • Walter Smith was born on 18 March 1867 and died on 7 February 1870 at Bungaree.
  • Robert Carlton Smith was born on 19 September 1869 at Bungaree and died on 26 April 1948 in Perth, Western Australia.
  • Elsie Maud Smith was born on 23 January 1873 at Bungaree and died on 6 February 1875 at Laura. ​​

Selina died on 15 May 1930,[23] at Blyth[24] and was buried in the Laura Cemetery.⁠[25][26]
