In the fall of 1907, the Jowers family loaded all their worldly goods in a wagon, hitched up the oxen, and moved to Verda, Louisiana. They crossed the Red River on a ferry barge at Colfax, and finally arrived near the Hargis Community in Grant Parish where they lived until their death.
