Caroline Louisa Smith was born in Hambleton, a village south of York, in 1853, Later this is sometimes mistaken for Humbleton, a very different village in Holderness. [1]
Caroline is the daughter of William Thomas Smith a solicitor and his wife Marry Ann.
Child 1861 Hambleton House
In 1861 Caroline is almost 8 years old and has three sisters. They are taught by a governess at home in Hambleton House. They have three servants, on being a serving maid or sewing maid from Shepton or Shipton - the writing is cramped.[2]
Marriage 1886 Selbw
William Henry Todd married Caroline Louisa Smith probably in West Haddlesey, West Yorkshire 1886. [3]
Land Agent 1911 Hedon
George Wilfred Todd is still in school at 17, very unusual in 1911. He is living in luxury with his father William Henry Todd a land agent at Birkholme, north of the small town of Hedon in East Yorkshire. He is almost certainly at Hymers College, a public school with a cadet force and a railway station at Botanic on the same line as Hedon. [4]
