I found a letter dated 17 May 1889, from a descendant, John Wilson Smith, who claims descent from "John Smith Sen'r, one of the proprietors of Taunton in 1639, - died 1691, - who married Jael Packer, - to John Jr. - married Mary Godfrey, - to Job, - married Hannah Barney, granddaughter of Rev. Samuel Danforth, Jr., - to John Wilson, - married Susanna Tillinghast, - to William Henry,... - married Mary Chaplin Avery. - https://archive.org/details/quartermillinnia00taun/page/160

Unless you have an objection, I plan to update his birth to reflect the baptismal record identified by Susan McNamee.
See her answer on the G2G posted as, "Conflicted marriage information for Henry Smith-16853 (PGM)".
