Gary Stratford Smith was born on 10 May 1943 in Moora District Hospital. He was the second son of Les Smith and Mavis Crane.^[1] A newspaper announcement of his birth was placed in the West Australian newspaper on 15th May 1943 which stated:

SMITH.—On May 10, at Moora District Hospital, to Mavis and Les (AIF)--a son (Gary Stratford). Both well.^[2]

Gary grew up in Geraldton until the family moved to Floreat Park, Western Australia in 1954.

He attended Christchurch Grammar School for his high school years, where he joined the Army Cadets.

After leaving school he attended Ridley College in Melbourne to study for the Anglican Priesthood. However, these studies were cut short and he returned to Perth to marry his childhood sweetheart.

He married Diana Wellington, a nurse, on 3 July 1965 when he was 22 years old. He was 28 years old when the marriage ended.^[3]

The 1968 Western Australian Electoral Role lists Diana and Gary Smith living in Flat 4, 449 Cambridge St, Wembley. Diana is a nursing sister and Gary is a clothing buyer.^[4] At the time he was working for Walshes Menswear.

Gary worked as a representative for the pharmaceutical industry educating medical professionals about the latest pharmaceuticals in the market. On 27 October 1994 Gary registered the trademark “Medical Windows” and moved into a new business partnership selling health industry software, specifically practice management software for doctors.

He passed away on 22 July 2021 at Bunbury Hospital, Western Australia. A private cremation service took place in Perth.^[1]

His brother Darryl placed this notice in the West Australian newspaper on 6 & 7 August 2021 on behalf of the whole family to inform friends and family of his passing. ^[5]

Much loved, second son of Leslie Smith (dec) and Rose Mavis Smith, née Crane (dec), born in Moora District Hospital 10 May 1943, died Bunbury Regional Hospital 22 July 2021.

Honoured by Karen his adopted and much loved daughter, and the grandfather of Ben, Elizabeth and Ashley Graven, all resident in the Northern Territory.

Much loved brother, of Darryl, Janette, and Deborah.

Esteemed uncle to 7 nephews, and 6 nieces, and thereafter an illustrious Grand uncle.

Loved cousin, of uncles and aunts passed, especially of June, for her sacrificial gift, extending life, and of Beverly, for good and faithful service.

Stepfather of Amanda, and Mathew, and step grandfather of Michael Bain.

Faithful spouse of Diana, and then of Catherine.

Sincere friend of many.

A follower of Jesus Christ, a student at Ridley Theological College, a parishioner of St Phillips Anglican Church, Cottesloe, and of St Barnabas Anglican Church, West Leederville.
