Biography

That her maiden name was "Smith" relies on tradition[1] plus notations in That Man Eastman,[2]

What is the source for her being daughter of Ralph Smith? In absence of evidence, she's been detached from any parents. Two other publications, the 1915 article and the 1938 Pillsbury book both reject that tradition and give her name as Sarah Unknown. Her origins are therefore also unknown. [3]

Birth

1621[4]
(Salisbury, England?)

Death

Sarah Eastman, wid., died Mar. 11, 1697/8. N. CT. BK., in Salisbury, Massachusetts.[5][6]

The 1901 was written by Guy Scooby Rix, a well known genealogy fraud. The 1915 article and the 1938 Pillsbury book, written by much better genealogists did not agree and left her as Sarah Unknown.

Actually, Jeanie, the 1901 book in footnote #1 says that "tradition" is the source for "Smith". I would leave it as is, but mark it as uncertain. I see that we can't mark LNABs as uncertain. We should say as much in the narrative.

In all publications previous to the 1952 self publish book, That Man Eastman, Sarah's surname is unknown. The author gives no source for the surname Smith. Is this enough to keep her LNAB 'Smith'?
