George was born in 1950's at home in Mains of Struthers, Kinloss, Moray, Scotland. The 6th child of Charles Smith and Helen Murdoch Ingram.
He attended Kinloss Primary school before going onto Forres Academy.
He enlisted into the British Army on 1 Sep 1966 into the Queen's Own Highlanders as a Junior soldier at Bridge of Don Barracks in Aberdeen, Scotland.
In 1968 he then joined the regiment which was based at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh. The regiment have a tradition that every Hogmanay they kick out the oldest soldier and welcome in the youngest soldier, and I happened to be the youngest that year. There was a toast to be made and it was to be done in Gaelic (which I knew nothing of so had to spend the few weeks up to the date learning the toast). Lucky for me they were quite intoxicated by the time I had to do the toast and it went well. It was also at this time that the troubles in N. Ireland bubbled to the surface and we were put on standby to go over their but it did not eventuate at this time possibly as we were earmarked to go to Sharjah in Persian Gulf in May of 1969.

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.
Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.
If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.
Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.
We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica
I descend from John Richmond of Taunton MA around 1650, the ancestor of most but not all US Richmonds. He has two direct male lines, and both lines (including me) have the same Y chromosome haplogroup, I-M253. He probably came from Wiltshire in the UK.
There seem to be quite a number of Scots Richmonds. I'd like to know if any of the men have had genetic testing done. (Most of the Y chromosome information is at familytreeDNA.)
You have an interesting biography. US Army Medical Corps veteran here, 1960s, wasn't out of the US. Retired pathologist in east Tennessee, 84 years old.
Kind regards, George.
It's time for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for contributing to the project and Australian profiles on WikiTree during the last year. We really appreciate you!
If you would like to stay in the project, please reply to this message or send me a private message to let us know that you would like to stay on. Alternatively, if your WikiTree and research interests have moved away from Australia, please let us know and we can remove you from the membership list for the moment. You will, of course, be very welcome to rejoin the project down the track whenever you want to.
We are also keen to know if you want to make any changes to the team or teams that you want to focus on. Take a look on Australia Project Teams to see what teams there are to choose from. If you want to discuss this, or have any questions or suggestions about the Australia Project we'd love to hear your ideas.
Thanks for taking the time to get back to us!
Kind Regards
Margaret Haining Membership Coordinator
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!
It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Kind Regards Mike (sorry George).
Sourcing NSW profiles sounds brilliant. Do you have access to our latest Births, Deaths and Marriages citation template? I'll post about it on the google group sometime in the next couple of days.
Gillian
In terms of what you might wish to do as part of the team I will leave that completely up to you. As we are all volunteers it basically means we can determine our own priorities. Personally, I probably only spend around 25% of my time on profiles that I am involved with managing; the rest are those that I can see need some care and attention. Most often I focus on those which are 'orphans' where there is no current profile manager.
If you have a look on the NSW Team page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Australia_Project_-_New_South_Wales_Team) you can see all of there and something about those who wish to share. You will also see a link there to the weekly Suggestion List for NSW profiles (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Automated:DD_Suggestion_List_AUS_NSW) and if you are ever bored there are heaps of things there to work on.
I highly recommend that you check out the Australia Project Resources page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Australia_Project_Resources).
Anyway, please feel free to reach out if I can help in any way at all. Take care and, above all, enjoy your experience here.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: New Member How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
