Biography

John was born in 1875. He passed away before 1958. 12/04/2022: I emailed assistant registrar in Gateshead regarding annotation on birth record. Specifically why the name of father had a faint line through it. I was informed that the registration was made and signed by mother but she was not married to father. At the time if mother and father were not married the form had to be signed by both parties. The registrar realised at a later date that the father had not signed the form so had to make a correction and put a line through the name. As such this does not mean that John Craggs was not the father, rather that Jane Smith had listed him as father but he had not confirmed this as a fact with his signature. There are many possible reasons for this including that he did not know he was the father or refused to accept that he was etc
