Clara Smith was born July 1855 in St Saviour Southwark, Surrey, England, United Kingdom. Her parents were Benjamin Smith, a hatter, and Mary Knight. 
In 1856, when she was 9 month old, her family immigrated to Australia. After a 3 months journey on the Moorsefort they arrived in Melbourne, Australia on July 2, 1856 right around the time of her first birthday. 
Clara Smith died in 1885 in Collingwood, Victoria at the age of 29 years.  She was laid to rest at the Melbourne General Cemetery. 
SMITH - On the 22nd January, at the residence of her brother William, Wellington-street. Collingwood, Clara, daughter of Benjamin F. Smith, of Sydney and eldest sister of T. Smith, Clarendon-street, South Melbourne, and G. Smith, Elizabeth-street, Hobart, aged 29 years. (The Age, Melbourne, Vic, 24 Jan 1885, p. 5)
