Mum's recollection perhaps conflates two events. She was certainly in hospital when she was about 2 years old with scarlet fever. She recalls her mother saying she had to walk to the hospital with holes in her shoes, as a result of the General Strike (though this was in May 1926, whereas Mum thinks she was two when she had it - it all fits if Mum was in hospital for several weeks).
All she recalled of it was that although the hospital denied it, she had the remains of whooping cough, and so must have been quite ill.

At the wedding of John Cameron and Margaret McDonald (john's third), Mum and Andrew Cameron were very young, and were left in the room with the wedding cake, while the ceremony was in a different room. Needless to say they were tempted by the cake and bit were had! (Mum was 2 at the time).

First memory is of their back garden in Nelson Street, where she saw a large ladder, which her father used to climb from his garden to a neighbours (the gardens were beside the railway line). She was two the time.

Mum was christened by a Church of Scotland minister because theKirk and Metyhodist Manses were side by side and Mum's father, who was not a church goer himself, went to the wrong Manse!
