Sergeant Asa Smith served with 22nd Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Smith, Asa (1752-1835) son of Elijah & Sibyl (Worthington) Smith of Belchertown was probably the Smith who attended the wedding of Diana Hinsdale of Greenfield and Elijah Dwight of Belchertown on 27 Sep 1774. When he died,Asa was a resident of Halifax, Vermont. (Romance, Remedies, and Revolution: The Journal of Dr. Elihu Ashley of Deerfield, MA 1773-1775 by Elihu Ashley [ed. Amelia F. Miller & A.R. Riggs, Pocumtuck Valley Assoc] U of MA Press(2007) 451pages)

"Served in the Rev. war at Cambridge, in the 25th regiment foot, 25 Apr 1775 to the end of the year. He served, likewise, through the whole of the year 1776 in the expedition to Quebec, under Capt. Josiah Lyman., Major Morgan, Col.Elisha Porter & Generals Thomas, Sullivan & Gates. Enlisted 1 Jan 1776, proceeded to Ticonderoga, arrived at Quebec 5 May, had the small pox, lost his baggage, reached Albany Nov, 1776, was left there sick while the rest of the company went to Morristown, NJ, came home much reduced in health in Dec., 1776, lived in Belchertown. Two years following, went to Shelburne, MA in the autumn of 1779, married Submit Severancy early in 1782, removed to Halifax, VT 8Mar 1796, and bought a farm one hundred acres two miles west of the meeting house.
