Edward Dorr Griffing Smith was born on November 7, 1826, in Williamstown, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, to Lyndon Arnold Smith and Francis Louisa (Griffing) Smith [1].

Smith (23) lived in Newark, Essex, New Jersey with his (inferred) father Lydon (53), his (inferred) mother Francis (48), (inferred) sister Francis (17), (inferred) brother Sanford (15), (inferred) brother Myron (11), an Irish female Catharine Pannel (25 - no occupation listed) and Irish female Mary McCarl (25 - no occupation listed); Edward attended school at this time[2].

In 1860, Edward (32) lived in Newark with his (inferred) wife Margaret (27 - partially smudged), (inferred) daughter Louisa (1), Irish domestic servant Catharine (25), New York domestic servant Susanna Graham (18), Mary Stangle from Barvaria (45) and New Jersey native Mary Katchen (66); Edward practiced as a physician[3].

Edward Dorr Griffing Smith (52) passed away on June 15, 1878, in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey[5][6].
