John Dexter, son of Rev. Gregory Dexter, was born November 6, 1652, at Providence, Rhode Island, and married, February 16, 1688, Alice Smith. [1] Alice was born in 1665, daughter of John and Sarah (Whipple) Smith. [2]
His widow remarried, Hon. Joseph Jenckes, Governor of Rhode Island in 1727. She died February 19, 1736. [2]
She is buried in the North Burial Ground at Providence. [3] Her inscription reads: Here Lyes Inter'd ye Body of Mrs Alice Jenchks ye Wife of Joseph Jencks Esq. late Governor of Rhode Island Dec'd Feby ye 19th 1736 in 72 Year of her Age.[4]

Alice, born October 14, 1705; married William Olney. [2]
